Wireless accessories are one of the fastest-growing trends in two-way radio gear, and the VGC BHM-88 Bluetooth Speaker Microphone is a standout option for operators who want flexibility, comfort, and extra functionality in the field. Designed to pair seamlessly with select VGC N-Series radios, the BHM-88 brings cordless convenience to everyday communication tasks.
At its core, the BHM-88 is a remote Bluetooth® speaker microphone that lets you control your radio without being tethered by cables. Thanks to its Bluetooth wireless connection, you can transmit and receive from up to 10 meters away from your radio. It's ideal for mobile setups, vehicle installations, or when you need quick access without crawling around to reach the main unit.
One of the most impressive features of the BHM-88 is its built-in 1.44-inch LCD display, which provides quick status feedback and makes the device feel more like a compact remote console than a simple mic. The LCD provides clear visual feedback, streamlining basic adjustments and status checks on the go. That display, paired with a 1200 mAh rechargeable Li-ion battery and USB-C charging, gives you hours of cordless operation between charges, keeping you connected without the clutter of wires.
Additional features include built-in GPS and an electronic compass. It adds utility for tracking and navigation-aware use cases, extending the ability of this microphone beyond simple voice communication.
As a genuine VGC OEM accessory, The BHM-88 works specifically for the VR-N7500, VR-N7600, and VR-N76 radios, making it a perfect fit for your VGC radio ensemble. It even supports firmware updates that broaden compatibility, such as optional use with certain ICOM radios when toggling ICOM Mode off for N-Series operation. It also has the ability for the speaker microphone to function as a Bluetooth speaker in its own right, which is a handy bonus when you want to play audio or alerts via the device.
If you are a VGC owner who wants a reliable, wireless accessory that enhances mobility and simplifies communication, the BHM-88 is a worthy upgrade. It pairs seamlessly with your N Series radios, adds useful visual and audio functions, and removes the restrictions of wired speaker microphones. Whether you’re in a vehicle or out in the field, this Bluetooth speaker mic elevates your everyday two-way experience.
The VGC BHM-88 is available in your choice of black or desert color and ships with a USB-C charging cable, belt clip and user manual from Buy Two Way Radios. Price: $74.99.[related_products is_auto_added="1"]

Intrinsically safe two way radios continue to be a critical tool for workers in hazardous environments, and for 2025 Buy Two Way Radios offers a focused lineup of IS-certified business portables designed for demanding industrial use. These radios are engineered so that their electrical and thermal energy stay below the level that could ignite flammable gases, vapors or dust, making them suitable for areas where a standard radio could be a serious ignition risk.
For VHF users, the Kenwood NX-P1200ISNVK is the backbone of the IS lineup. It’s a 5-watt, mix-mode digital/analog handheld built on Kenwood’s NXDN platform, with 64 total channels arranged across four zones for flexible fleet organization. It’s IP54/55 dust and water resistant, meets MIL-STD 810 specs for durability, and ships with an intrinsically safe lithium-ion battery, drop-in charger and three-year Kenwood warranty.
If your facility relies on UHF, the Kenwood NX-P1300ISNUK mirrors that feature set on 451-470 MHz. Like its VHF sibling, it supports mixed analog and NXDN digital operation so you can migrate a plant or warehouse from analog to digital at your own pace. With 5 watts of output power, 64 channels, QT/DQT codes, second PTT, voice inversion scrambler and a selectable 7-color status LED, it’s built for busy, noisy industrial floors where reliability and safety are equally important.
At the top end of the range is the Icom F52DUL/F62DUL series. These compact IDAS™ portables add IP67 waterproofing, MIL-STD-810G shock and vibration resistance, and a huge 512-channel / 128-zone capacity for complex systems. They support analog/digital mixed mode, NXDN digital, built-in Bluetooth, voice recording, lone worker and man-down features, plus both analog and digital voice scramblers, while maintaining intrinsically safe construction for volatile environments.
Choosing between them usually comes down to band and system design. VHF often favors outdoor or campus-style layouts. UHF tends to perform better inside large buildings and dense facilities. Kenwood’s NX-P series offers straightforward migration from existing ProTalk fleets, while Icom’s F52DUL/F62DUL is geared toward larger, highly featured IDAS/NXDN systems that need maximum channel capacity and advanced safety functions.
Whichever route you take, these intrinsically safe radios give you an up-to-date, supported path for compliant communications in 2025 without compromising on audio quality, coverage or durability. If you’re unsure which model fits your plant, job site or facility, give us a call at 1-800-584-1445 so we can help you match the band, power and feature set to your specific hazard classes and workflow.[related_products is_auto_added="1"]

Many GMRS radios are described as having a range of "up to" a certain distance on the package. But how accurate are these claims?
In this episode of Radio 101, Tommy explains what the "up to" really means and how you can maximize range when using your GMRS radios.

In this episode of Radio 101, Tommy explains what the “up to” range claim really means on the package and how you can maximize range when using your GMRS radios.
When severe weather strikes, access to information becomes one of the most important tools for survival. Power failures, network outages, and damaged infrastructure can quickly silence smartphones, cable television, and internet service. A dedicated weather radio provides a dependable source of official broadcasts from the NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards operated by The National Weather Service. These alerts operate through a nationwide system that is designed to function during storms, floods, and other emergency events.
Weather radios are designed with alert functions and features that support communication when other systems fail. The alert function will sound an alarm whenever a watch or warning is issued, sometimes even if the radio is not actively in use. Radios equipped with Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) can be programmed for alerts within the area of your exact location. This avoids unnecessary alarms and ensures that warnings apply to your specific household or office.
Power options also play an important role. Many weather radios support battery power, hand cranking, or solar charging, which allows them to operate during extended outages. They typically have more than one power option, and some offer them all. Several models combine essential functions such as flashlights or USB ports for charging other devices. These features combine to create a practical tool for sheltering at home or evacuating to another location.
There are several situations in which a weather radio can make a meaningful difference. Tornadoes often form with little warning and can arrive during the night. The loud alert from a weather radio can wake families, allowing precious seconds to reach shelter. After a hurricane makes landfall, a portable emergency radio can provide ongoing instructions from public safety officials, including evacuation routes, supply locations, and updates on flooding. Campers, hikers, and drivers traveling through remote areas can rely on a weather radio when internet access is unavailable.
Weather events are not the only concern. These radios can also relay civil emergency messages, such as chemical spills or police activity that requires immediate action.
Buy Two Way Radios offers a range of models suitable for home use, travel, or outdoor planning. Options include compact radios for basic alerting, emergency crank designs with flashlights, and advanced receivers for daily use at home. Adding a weather radio to your preparedness plan is a simple and effective step that ensures your family receives accurate and timely emergency alerts and information when it matters most.[related_products is_auto_added="1"]
When severe weather strikes, access to information becomes one of the most important tools for survival. The solution is simple. You should have a dedicated emergency weather radio.
